A Bahraini-Singaporean coordination meeting within the framework of following up on the establishment of the Bahrain International Commercial Court

The joint working group between the governments of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Singapore held a coordination meeting, within the framework of consultations to develop mechanisms for implementing the bilateral agreement to establish the Bahrain International Commercial Court (BICC).

 

The meeting, which was held today, Saturday, at the Economic Development Board, was attended from the Bahraini side by His Excellency Mr. Yousef bin Abdul Hussein Khalaf, Minister of Legal Affairs, His Excellency Mr. Nawaf bin Muhammad Al-Maawda, Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, His Excellency Ms. Nour bint Ali Al-Khalif, Minister of Sustainable Development, and a number of officials. On the Singaporean side, Mr. Sundaresh Manon, Chief Justice, Judge Philip Jeyaretnam, President of the Singapore International Commercial Court, and a number of officials.

 

Last March, the governments of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Singapore signed a bilateral agreement to establish an international commercial court to settle transnational commercial disputes under the name of the Bahrain International Commercial Court (BICC). The agreement also included the establishment of a specialized appellate body in the Republic of Singapore to consider appeals of rulings issued by That court.

 

The Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Singapore aim to strengthen the rule of law at the international level and strengthen international trade through developing systems for settling international commercial disputes, which contributes to providing better standards for the means of settling international commercial disputes in a way that overcomes the current challenges faced by dealers in the field of international trade today. Try to settle their disputes.

 

This agreement is a reflection of the level of progress of Bahraini-Singaporean relations and the two countries’ keenness to deepen cooperation in all fields, in a way that contributes to achieving the common interests of the two countries and the two friendly peoples and benefits everyone.
